ADHD made the calendar feel impossible long before I had a name for it. I built the systems I needed to survive my own brain, not because I read about productivity, but because I had to.
Room to breathe means something specific to me. It means I know what it costs to operate without it.
I have spent the last fifteen years building AI-powered tools, first for myself, then for other owners. Not because it was a trend. Because the work piles up faster than any one person can move it, and I wanted to know if that was actually true or just something we accepted. It is not true. We have gotten 20 hours a week back for clients who thought they were out of options. I run a podcast network on top of this. The systems have to work because I live in them.

Twenty years in accounting firms, nonprofits, and professional services taught me one thing before anything else: the building tells you what is wrong before any report does. I learned to read teams early because that is where every real fix starts. In the way decisions move, in who gets talked over, in what does not get said in the meeting.
I built Discover Capacity before I built Margin with Shane. Same instinct, different context: come in where people are, figure out what is actually in the way, and build something that lasts after you leave. That is still the work. I hold an M.A. in Organizational Leadership, and I use it every time I walk into a room I have never been in before.

Our Story
How Margin Started
Sara and Shane were friends before they were business partners. That part matters.
They had the same argument for two years. Sara kept finding organizations where good people were doing their worst work just to keep broken systems running. Shane kept building systems that only held because he stayed close to them. The answer was obvious once they said it out loud: Sara reads the people, Shane builds around them, and neither one can do the other's job alone.
Sara holds an M.A. in Organizational Leadership and spent years inside accounting firms, nonprofits, and professional services practices. Shane has been building automated systems since 2008, long before AI was a buzzword.
We started Margin because we saw the same thing from both sides: reports that gather dust, systems that nobody uses, and good people doing their worst work to keep it all running.
Margin is what we give you back. Breathing room. Headroom to grow. The hour you spent finding a number, given back to the work that hired you in the first place.
We are based in Wabash, Indiana. We work with businesses, government offices, and nonprofits across NE Indiana, plus a handful elsewhere. If you have run a business in this region, you already know whether that matters.
