Getting Started
What happens in a discovery call? 30 min, no pressure
It's a 30-minute conversation where we learn about your business, understand what's eating your time, and explore whether we can help. If you have business partners who should be present, let us know when booking. We're happy to extend the call to make sure everyone's heard. You'll walk away with clarity, whether we work together or not.
How do I know if automation is right for my business? Repetitive = automatable
Automation helps in three scenarios: (1) Repetitive tasks eating your time, like data entry, report generation, email sorting, and scheduling. (2) Convoluted systems where information gets stuck in complex approval chains, multi-step processes with too many handoffs. (3) Duplicative tools doing similar things, like paying for Stripe AND your website's payment system, or running MailChimp AND Constant Contact, or manually copying data between systems that should talk to each other. If any of those sound familiar, we can probably help. We'll tell you honestly if we can't.
What size businesses do you work with? $500K-$5M typical
We primarily work with businesses from $500K to $5M in revenue, though we've helped smaller startups and larger organizations. The key factor isn't size. It's whether you have processes worth streamlining.
I don't have time to implement new systems right now. 2-3 hrs of your time
We hear this a lot, and it makes total sense. You're already stretched thin. Here's the thing: we designed our process specifically for busy people. The assessment requires about 2-3 hours of your time total, spread over 2-4 weeks. After that, we do the heavy lifting. You review, give feedback, and approve, but you're not building anything yourself. Most clients tell us they wish they'd started sooner.
What if we've been burned by a consultant or software vendor before? Most clients have
Most of our clients have. That HubSpot rollout that never finished. The agency that took the retainer and disappeared. The SaaS that promised everything and delivered a login. We hear it on most discovery calls. That's why our work is paid against measurable outcomes, why we name a 5X ROI promise in writing, and why the assessment is built to tell you no if we're not a fit. If you don't trust us yet, that's the right starting position. Trust gets earned in the first 30 days, not on the sales call.
Process & Timeline
How long does a typical engagement take? 2-4 weeks to start
Assessment typically takes 2-4 weeks depending on complexity. Implementation ranges from 2-4 weeks (Quick Wins) to 4-6 months (Full Lift). Timelines vary based on your organization's size and the scope of change. Most clients see their first workflow live within 4-6 weeks of starting.
How long until we see results? 90 days to first win
Our 90-day target is a first measurable win, usually 8 to 15 hours back per week for the team or a specific bottleneck cleared. Quick Wins clients often see their first workflow live in 4 to 6 weeks. Full Lift across multiple departments runs 4 to 6 months. We name the first win at kickoff so you know what we are aiming at and when.
What's the difference between assessment and implementation? Find → Build → Train
Assessment: Sara (M.A. in Organizational Leadership) listens to your team and identifies what needs to change. Implementation: Shane builds the systems around how your team actually works. Adoption: We train your team until it sticks. Most consultants stop at step one. We do all three. One team, complete solution.
Do I need to be technical to work with you? Not at all
Not at all. We handle all the technical work. Your job is to explain how your business works and what's frustrating. We translate that into systems.
Pricing & Investment
What does it cost? Scoped after fit call
Engagements range from focused First Win work to full multi-month builds. Specific numbers come after a 15-minute fit call. See our /services/implementation page for the shape.
What if we hate it or it doesn't pay off? 5X ROI promise
We have a 5X ROI promise in writing. If the work does not return at least five times the fee in measurable value within 90 days of implementation, we keep working at no additional cost until it does. We have never had to invoke this. You also own everything we build, so if we part ways, you keep the systems, the documentation, and the training.
Are there ongoing fees or lock-in contracts? No lock-in
No lock-in. The systems we build run on tools you own, in accounts you control, with credentials you hold. Optional monthly retainers exist for clients who want ongoing build capacity or priority support, but most clients run independently after we finish. Cancel any retainer with 30 days notice.
Our Commitment
What's the 5X ROI commitment? 5X or we keep working
If you do not see at least 5X return on your investment within 90 days of implementation, we keep working until you do, at no additional cost. We have never had to invoke this.
Will you replace people on our team? Almost never
Almost never. The goal is to free your team for the work they were hired to do, not to eliminate roles. We have never recommended replacing a person with AI at any of our clients. The owners we work with chose those people on purpose, and the right systems make those people more valuable, not redundant. If a role genuinely should not exist, that is a hiring decision you make, not a recommendation we hand you.
How do we know if Margin is the right fit? A conversation tells us both
A 30-minute discovery call tells us both. We listen first. If we are not the right fit for your situation, we will tell you so on the call and point you toward what might actually help. No pressure either way.
Technology & Tools
What automation platforms do you use? Fraction of the cost
We use enterprise-grade automation tools that cost a fraction of the popular alternatives. We also integrate with whatever you are already using: project management tools, accounting software, Google Workspace, and hundreds more.
Do you work with CRMs like HubSpot or Salesforce? Whatever you use
We work with whatever you're using. If you love HubSpot or Salesforce, we'll optimize and automate around those systems. If you're drowning in a CRM that's too complex for your needs, we might recommend something simpler like Monday.com. We don't force anyone onto a specific platform. We find what fits your business and budget.
Can you help us consolidate tools we're paying for twice? Yes, common win
This is one of the most common wins we find. Many businesses end up with overlapping tools: two email platforms, payment processing in three places, customer data scattered across five systems. We audit what you're actually using, eliminate redundancy, and make sure your remaining tools actually talk to each other. Clients often save hundreds per month in subscription fees alone.
Will I own the systems you build? 100% yours
Everything we build is yours. We document it thoroughly and train your team to manage it. If we part ways, you keep everything.
What about AI? Do you use it? When it helps
Yes, when it makes sense. AI excels at email sorting, document processing, and content generation. But we only use it where it genuinely helps. Sometimes the right answer is a simpler process, not more technology.
After Implementation
What happens after the project is done? Docs + training
You'll have full documentation, video walkthroughs, and trained team members. We offer optional monthly retainers for ongoing support, but many clients run independently after we finish.
What if something breaks? 30-90 days included
All implementations include 30-90 days of support. During that time, we fix any issues at no extra charge. After that, retainer clients get priority support.
Can you help us with new workflows later? Yes, retainers available
Definitely. Many clients start with one project and come back for more. We also offer monthly retainers for continuous improvement and new build capacity.
Government & Public Sector
Do you work with government organizations? Yes, county + municipal
We do. County offices, municipal departments, public sector orgs. The operational problems look a lot like what we see in private business, just with tighter budgets and more compliance boxes to check. As Indiana moves forward with SEA 472 and state-level AI initiatives, we are positioned to help county and municipal offices implement responsibly.
How do you handle government compliance requirements? We work in your framework
We work inside your existing compliance framework, not around it. Every system we build keeps proper documentation, audit trails, and data handling in place. We do not claim certifications we have not earned. Tell us your requirements during discovery and we will scope the work to meet them.
Can you work within government procurement processes? Yes, flexible pricing
Yes. RFPs, budget cycles, procurement hoops. We have been through them. Our engagement structure is flexible enough to fit how your organization actually buys services. References from current government clients are available upon request.
What about data security for government systems? Security first
Security is the foundation, not a feature. Access controls, data isolation, documentation for your IT team. Tell us your requirements and we will build within them.
